Real inventory contains repeated SKUs. The same code gets reused across suppliers, across stores, and across variations. Tools that treat SKU as a unique key deal with this by merging records that should have stayed separate, which is difficult to undo.

What SellerHint uses instead

  • Local product changes are associated with the SellerHint database row identity, not with the SKU text.
  • Marketplace associations use the exact eBay item identity within a specific store context.

Where SKU is still used

SKU matching appears only in specific workflows: Product Import, explicit linking, and Inventory Sync. In those workflows a duplicate SKU produces a conflict that is reported to you, not an automatic decision.
